Neil: Hello, welcome to Real English from BBC Learning1 English, I'm Neil.

Feifei: 大伙好，我是馮菲菲。

Neil: In Real English we look at words and phrases people use all the time which you might not find in your dictionary.

Feifei: 在地道英語(yǔ)節(jié)目當(dāng)中大家給大伙介紹一些在字典里查不到的新詞語(yǔ)新短語(yǔ)。 So, how was that important meeting you had to go to, Neil?

Neil: Oh it was awful!

Feifei: Oh no! Neil 去參加了一個(gè)尤為重要的會(huì)議，可是他說(shuō)這個(gè)會(huì)議很糟糕！Why was it so bad?

Neil: Well, there were some of the really big bosses there and when they asked me a question I just couldn't think of what to say. I was completely tongue-tied.

Feifei: 原來(lái)如此，在開(kāi)會(huì)過(guò)程當(dāng)中有人問(wèn)了 Neil 一個(gè)問(wèn)題，可是與會(huì)的都是一些尤為重要的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)，Neil 一時(shí)緊張，什么也回答不上來(lái)了，所以他就被 tongue- tied. 舌頭被系住了，語(yǔ)塞。這個(gè)比喻很形象，當(dāng)一個(gè)人的舌頭被什么東西系住后，假如想說(shuō)話可能就會(huì)比較困難了！

B: I know, but I was so nervous I was completely tongue-tied when he asked me anything. He must think I'm such an idiot2!

Neil: Oh no, poor her. I know how she feels.

Feifei: 這位女同胞和自己很喜歡的男性約會(huì)，可是由于自己太緊張了，這個(gè)男性問(wèn)她的問(wèn)題她一個(gè)也回答不上來(lái)。她是徹底不了解該怎么說(shuō)了，tongue-tied。

Neil: Do you ever get tongue-tied Feifei?

Feifei: Yeah, I had a job interview recently and I just couldn't get my words out properly when they asked me questions. I was really tongue-tied. 在參加面試的時(shí)候，我一緊張想說(shuō)的話全忘了。 I was tongue-tied.

Neil: I know what you mean. Sometimes I get tongue-tied when I'm on the radio.

Feifei: You're on the radio now!

Neil: Oh yeah well ahh so um oh I'm tongue-tied again. I can't think of what to say!
